I believe cultures resonate to the vibrations artists create and instill upon their work. Author’s words carry the weight of their focal points. This focus can help or harm the society into which their creations permeate.
As an example, a comedian stands in front of a community and pokes fun not at everyone in general but at a select group of people. The vibration moves and resonates with like seeds of prejudice harbored by his audience and grows. Soon we have ill feelings being expressed against a select group of people. Good or bad?
Here lies either the creation of good and the destruction of evil or vice versus. It all depends upon the amount of good or evil that resides in the intents of the artist. Are his intents driven by hate or are they motivated by the will to help others better understand and survive?
Something funny can be funny for different reasons. If the comedian himself has been degraded by and addicted to drugs, his comedy might carry the vibrations of addiction and degradation into the society. Those craving agreement for their addictions will develop an affinity with this particular comedian and his comedy. The vibration grows and others are sucked into the morass. Drugs become popular and those not using drugs are the brunt of the comedy and ostracized. That is the destruction of good by evil.
That is the weight we authors carry upon our shoulders. We have an obligation to the future not to glorify our weaknesses but to enhance the strengths and wisdoms that will carry society forward out of divisiveness, degradation and war.

Nice highlight on humor and acceptance. My husband and I were talking about comedy and context last week. It’s easier to face uncomfortable truths when we can laugh at ourselves.

It funny that you say this. I was watching a famous comedienne on Netflix the other night, and I was wondering how many people would adopt his view or begin to believe his beliefs or think what he thinks. Interesting. “The World According to Comediennes”, we would be in deep trouble.

I think too that all our “vibrations” contribute to the collective. I like the discussion about the artists role as when all tasks will be automated, the only real human thing that will be left is art. Thanks for sharing
