I am leaving
by choice, opposing
forces that would keep me
like a moth fluttering
at the lights of San Francisco.
It would be easy
to stay, there is plenty
of work and sunshine,
good food and golf
in the Napa vines.
I am leaving
from within to without, conceiving
the adult pages
of my own
life story.
It would be easy to fold
my dreams into friends,
cover my head
with the blankets of habit
and just give in.
For certain, the pay is high
as Humboldt County.
